1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Times of Switzerland AG, Bahnhofstrasse 21, 8001 Zurich, Switzerland. You can reach us at any time at privacy@timesofswitzerland.ch or through our contact page.
2. What we collect
Newsletter signups. When you subscribe to The Investment Briefing, we collect your email address. A name is optional.
Messages and reviews. When you contact us or send a review, we collect your name, email address, optionally your country, and the content of your message or review including your rating.
Attribution data. With every form submission we record the page you submitted from, the page title, the referring page and any UTM campaign parameters in the URL. This tells us which stories bring readers to us.
Technical data. Our hosting provider processes standard server logs (IP address, browser type, time of request) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
3. What we do not do
We do not run advertising trackers. We do not sell your data. We do not build behavioural profiles. We do not use analytics cookies at this time.
4. Cookies and local storage
This site does not set tracking cookies. We use your browser's local storage, which stays on your device, for four things only:
Remembering that you dismissed or subscribed to the newsletter popup; caching market quotes for a few minutes so charts load faster; your accessibility preferences (font size, contrast); and your choice on the privacy notice banner itself.
Our wordmark font is loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google servers and transmits your IP address when a page loads. Market and weather data is fetched directly by your browser from stooq.com, api.frankfurter.dev, api.coingecko.com and api.open-meteo.com, which likewise see your IP address. None of these requests carry your identity.
5. Why we process data (legal bases)
We process your email address to deliver the newsletter you asked for (performance of a service at your request, and consent). We process messages, reviews and attribution data on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and improving a newsroom. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing privacy@timesofswitzerland.ch; withdrawal does not affect processing that already happened.
6. Who processes data on our behalf
Form submissions are handled by Netlify (hosting and serverless functions, United States), stored in a MongoDB Atlas database (cloud hosting), and notified to the newsroom by email through Formly. Each acts as a processor under contract. Where data is transferred outside Switzerland or the EU, we rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
7. How long we keep data
Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Messages and reviews are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymised. Server logs are rotated by our hosting provider on short cycles.
8. Your rights
You have the right to access the data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email privacy@timesofswitzerland.ch. We answer within 30 days.
If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you may complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, if you are in the EU, to your local data protection authority.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Form data is transmitted encrypted and access to our leads database is restricted to the editorial team.
10. Children
Our content and services are directed at adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.
